5 Ways to Wear Plaid

By Sara Antonuccio
What says “colder weather”  more than plaid? You see it everywhere, from mugs to jackets to holiday  decorations. It’s the unofficial pattern of the season, and we love it. If you’re looking for new ways to wear plaid this season, try out a few of these ideas:
On Your Boots
We know you’re already pulling out your boots, but here’s an important question: do any of them feature plaid? No? Then you have a new pair to add to the collection this year! If you’re a fan of ankle boots, you can go plaid-crazy and get a pair that are covered in it. Taller boots should be a little more reserved to avoid plaid-overload, but plaid detailing on the back or around the sides adds the perfect touch.
Wrapped Around Your Shoulders
Blanket scarves are not only cute, they’re practical. Lunch in the park suddenly turning chilly? Unwrap your scarf and slip it around your shoulders. Huddled around a campfire with your beau? Blanket-sharing makes cuddling a must. The list of uses is endless, so do yourself a favor and pick one up in any style or color of plaid you fancy. Once you do, you’ll always be prepared.
On Your Sweater
Plaid jackets have been king for what feels like forever. Maybe it’s time to make a change. We know fall is the season to break out sweaters, so why not combine two fall favorites and pick up a few sweaters decked out in plaid? If sweaters aren’t your thing, buffalo plaid cardigans give off an alpine lodge-like feel that’ll make you want to cozy up by the fire with a warm drink.
In Your Hair
Besides blanket scarves, you know what else is the perfect cold weather accessory? Hats! Nothing keeps out the chill like a cozy beanie or newsboy cap. Plaid hats look best when the rest of your outfit is a solid, neutral shade like white or black. Some of our favorite types of hats for fall are fedoras, Greek fisherman’s caps, newsboy caps, and of course trooper hats.
In Your Hand
What’s the point of a purse with no personality? Plaid is a fun pattern for a purse because it guarantees that your outfit will always have an accessory with a little pizzazz. Plaid totes are perfect for day-cations to look at lights, or a trip to the park, and small plaid purses fit in just right at holiday parties and intimate gatherings.
Wearing plaid is like a rite of passage that grants you entry into the season of festivities. Proudly display your seasonal pride in one of these ways, or come up with your own!
